VoguePay, an online payment processor, has rewarded three student software developers with N225, 000 for developing innovative technology solutions.
The firm, in a statement on Sunday, said the three winning ideas received cash prizes of N100, 000, N75, 000 and N50, 000, respectively.
It added that for Nigeria’s software industry to be competitive and meet global demands, there was an urgent need to invest in a new generation of software developers and businesses.
The students were rewarded after a hackathon held at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomosho, as part of a sponsorship agreement VoguePay signed with the Nigerian Association of Computer Science Students in 2017.
The statement said, “And as part of the students’ annual conference, VoguePay rewards with cash awards and other consolation prizes students and developers who are building e-Commerce and other software technology that can impact and improve various sectors of Nigeria’s economy.”
Commenting on why the company sponsored NACOSS, VoguePay’s Chief Executive Officer, Michael Simeon, noted, “It is time to give back to the community and encourage a new generation of software entrepreneurs.
