It was an evening of splendor, array of prominent personalities including Former Governor Liyel Imoke of Cross River who was the keynote speaker and lively entertainment at this year’s Social Enterprise Responsibility Awards. Different companies, personalities and institutions smiled home with special recognition awards for their roles in Corporate Social Responsibility activities within and outside the country
With the theme TRANSFORMATIONAL SUSTAINABILITY: From Social Responsibility to Social Impact, Muson Centre, Lagos, venue for the event came alive as the various nominees received the prestigious SERAs Statuette for different categories while the Sustainability Champion award went to Dr. Herbert Wigwe, the CEO/ Managing Director of Access Bank. In receiving the award on behalf of Dr. Herbert Wigwe, Roosevelt Ogbonna, the Group Deputy Managing Director, Access Bank said “I am honoured to lead a bank that is committed to building a lasting and profitable financial institution that operates in a manner that will not compromise the ability of future generations to live in healthy environments and prosperous communities”
Earlier in an address, Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals, Princess Adejoke Orelope, disclosed that her office will join hands together with organizations and companies to make communities and societies better, and called on those who have shown spirited corporate social responsibility to continue the good works they are doing.
Some of the winners included: Airtel Nigeria for Best Company in Stakeholder Engagement in its flagship Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative dubbed Airtel Touching Lives, Access Bank for Best Company In Climate Action; Most Outstanding CSR Practitioner Of The Year – received by Omobolanle Victor-Laniyan, Head, Sustainability at Access Bank; Sustainability Champion of the Year – given to Dr. Herbert Wigwe, GMD/CEO, Access Bank; Best company CSR//Sustainability West Africa; and the highest honour of the night – The Most Socially Responsible Company of The Year (Overall Winner), Zenith bank for best company in sustainability reporting, Growing Business Foundation(GBF) for best SME organization and Best NGO, Sterling Bank for Best company in financial inclusion, while Fidelity Bank smiled home with Best Company In Support Of SMEs amongst several other winners.
